An Offer From A Gentleman by Julia Quinn

  • Book 3 in Bridgerton Series

  • Romance

  • Cinderella Retelling

Sophie never dreamed it would be possible to be a member of the ton. But for one night she can at the Bridgertons’ annual mascaraed ball. On the one magical night she’s not the servant or even illegitimate daughter of an earl. She is able to live the fantasy that she’s someone Benedict Bridgerton could be with.

Characters

Sophie is the daughter of the earl of pen wood she has been in his cave since she was left at his door step. That was until he passed and his wife decided Sophie was going to become a servant en the house.

Benedict is the second son in the Bridgerton clan with being a Bridgerton comes with its perks but Benedict is always considered number two and never seen as anything other than the second Bridgeton boy.

Violet Bridgerton is one of my favorite characters. She truly knows her children and that’s shown in every book. She is the mother of Benedict and like every mother is meddles but shes also very aware of what goes on in her house or with her children. She’s observant and catches things most people don’t.

Hyacinth and Eloise Bridgerton are Benedicts younger siblings. They are the two that are witty and can measure up in comebacks with their siblings and bring humor to the book which is refreshing and allows us to see the family dynamics.

Sophie is strong in her convictions and beliefs and really try to hold on to them which really does help to show how she is truly in love with Benedict to give in and have these intimate moments with him. Overall Benedict finally realizes how naive he is being by not seeing it from Sophies perspective and not understanding her reasons.

Writing

The pace of the book was fast. It starts out with a prologue to give the reader insight to Sophie and her dynamic in Penwoods house and how that feels and changes when the countess comes to live with them. The book then goes through introductions and has our main characters Sophie and Benedict meet. This allows the reader to see them meet but also so the importance of their meeting by doing a 2 year time jump. At first when Benedict and Sophie meet again after years this part upset me and I couldn’t understand why Benedict couldn’t have noticed or recognized her in that moment but I think overall it did help with the story and plot of the book. The setting of this book really helps to escape and not feel like you’re reading something that could happen now and held true to the time period we were set in. One of the major themes in this book was the different roles in society they have to play and how that played into both Sophie and Benedicts decisions on their relationship.

I really did enjoy this book It was my first read of the year and I liked it. I didn’t realize how much of the book I had consumed and I like that feeling it showed me that it was really enjoyable. In on sitting I was able to read 100-150 pages and felt like nothing. This is a cinderella retelling so if that’s not something you like this is practically the same thing. There’s a ball he doesn’t know who she is.She had a evil stepmother and tries to keep her away from her “prince” also she does call Benedict prince charming so its even mentioned within the book that this is a cinderella retelling.

Rating

⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️.5

Pace- Easy to get through

Romance- spicy but not to much

Writing style- unique with the lady whistledown intros

If you’re wanting a fun easy romance that feels familiar this is unique in its own way but still stays true to cinderella story line as well.
