Alex and Ava
Brothers Best Friend
Overprotective
Billionaire
Let’s start first with Alex and Ava (Twisted Love by Ana Huang). Huang knew what she was doing when she created Alex and Ava! Every time I think of them they are PERFECT for each other. Alex is Ava’s brother’s best friend. He’s grumpy to everyone but her, but protective because her brother asked him to be. Ava is a college student focused on her studies, living an average life—until Alex comes into the picture. The more the two of them are around her the more they connect and Alex becomes so protective of Ava and doesn’t want her to hurt in most the things he does. When him and Ava have their issues he also grovels and shows how much he cares for her by continuing to try even when it could feel pointless.
Daliah & Julian
Rivals to lovers
Childhood friends
Small Town
Billionaire
The next couple I love is Julian and Daliah (Love Redesigned by Lauren Asher). Julian and Daliah are childhood friends and also rivals. They are so deeply connected by multiple things one being that their mothers are best friends. Daliah and Julian both grew up in the same small lake town and are now both working in the home industry with Julian working in real estate and construction and Daliah has her own hit Interior Design brand as well as just finishing up a season of her TV show. Due to their close family relationships over the fall and winter holidays they are forced to work together again. The both of them are stubborn and this shows in all of their conversations which makes their banter so great. They are both also so comfortable with each other that when they do have banter there’s a level of snark to it that has a different feel. It’s from a place of actually knowing the other person and not assumptions. They are so bold in what they say to each other and I think that’s what makes their relationship good. They also have to be the best at what they do and I love they way that is shown in their book.
Alex and Henry
Rivals to lovers
US & British love affair
This next couple is so beautiful to me. I think of their story often and the declarations of love warms my heart. Alex and Henry (Red White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston) are the son of the President of the United States and the Grandson to the King of England. They start as enemies and turn into lovers, they both have animosity towards each other leading to a public confrontation that forces them to clean up their mess by having to spend even more time with each other. The both of them are under the shadow and represent not only their family but large institutions. The pressures of that allows them to connect and get closer to each other. Once they realize they are more a like they build a relationship and start to date secretly and long distance. The way they make time for each other and show the other they aren’t alone or forgotten is beautiful. This story shows that even though they could be so different they are also very alike.
Johnny & Shannon
High school
Rugby
TW
I couldn’t talk about best romance couples without mentioning this one. Johnny and Shannon (Binding 13 by Chloe Walsh) have a special place in my heart. This was possibly one of the slowest slow burns I’ve ever read. IT WAS SO WORTH IT! I loved their story so much by the end of it I wished all the characters I met were real but most of all I wanted Johnny and Shannons story to be played out in a movie and tv show and I wanted to consume it any way possible. Johnny is the star Rugby player in their school while Shannon is the new girl at school and just trying to survive. On the first day of school has an accident on the rugby pitch due to Johnny being annoyed with his team mate. Shannon got caught in the cross fire and Johnny feels so bad he takes her to the nurse and all he wants to do is make sure she’s alright and safe. Shannon having gone through so much at her old school has her guard up and barely lets anyone close enough to help. Johnny tries everything he can to protect her and can’t stay away from her even though he knows he shouldn’t get involved with a girl. Johnny and Shannon both build their relationship by being friends first.
